Litigation & Dispute Resolution

An experienced litigation law firm

When CGD was founded in 2017, we combined our decades of experience to develop a focused litigation practice.

The first thing our litigators do when hired is to strategize and collaborate with their clients so they can best advise them on what they should (and sometimes should not) do when faced with the challenges of business litigation. Our team of litigators has represented various business and individual interests in state and federal courts in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and throughout the United States; before arbitrators in both private and administered arbitrations; in appeals to the Rhode Island Supreme Court and the First Circuit; and in a vast array of administrative proceedings. Before we get there, however, we endeavor to develop and implement the best strategy on a case-by-case basis to keep us proactive and efficient. The pillars of our litigation practice are experience, service and results.

CGD has a demonstrated depth and breadth of experience gained by representing some of the region's largest companies for decades, and litigating with and against some of the largest law firms in the country. One of the things we enjoy most about litigating in our smaller environment, however, is our ability to maintain the highest degree of flexibility and personal service for our clients, who, when they are in the midst of unwanted litigation (is there any other kind?) all have direct contact with us. Since we started the firm, we have focused our diverse subject matter experience on the areas in which we are strongest: business, environmental, real estate/land use, and employment litigation.

Our business litigation practice also encompasses counseling our clients on administrative and regulatory matters and conducting corporate compliance reviews and investigations.

Representative Matters

  • Represented a group of minority shareholders, including a founding officer, in a multi-count action against directors and shareholders of a closely-held Nevada corporation based in Massachusetts. After multiple dispositive motions by defendants were largely denied, broad discovery was exchanged, and defendants filed a retaliatory lawsuit against the former officer/client of CGD, the CGD team negotiated a favorable settlement and dismissal of all claims.

  • Represented a condominium owner of a two-unit condominium in a dispute with the other unit owner. After almost two years of litigation and a week-long trial, Rachelle and her team prevailed, with the Judge issuing a 90-page written decision making new law and awarding CGD's client their attorneys' fees on multiples bases.

  • Frequently serves as local counsel for out-of-state lawyers in state and federal courts, in some of the largest cases pending in Rhode Island.
